In the past year, I've seen more and more Jeep owners using GPS systems. The cost of the handheld GPS systems in particular has fallen dramatically to the point where you can by a low-end unit for as little as $99 brand new. Then in March of this year (2002) a friend let us borrow his extra handheld GPS for a GPS treasure hunt at an offroad event and ever since then I whined about wanting one. My whining was heard and for my birthday my awesome father-in-law bought me a Garmin eTrex Venture, identical to his own. I've played with his and loved it and was estatic to receive such a cool present. On our first couple of outings in our Wrangler it became obvious that my leg wasn't the best place to sit the Venture and the center console wasn't much better (the view of the sky was blocked more there when the top was on). One day I accidentally came across someone selling a bracket to mount a handheld GPS to the windshield of a Wrangler without any drilling and immediately ordered one. To make a long story short, I ended up buying two so that my wife and travel companion could navigate sometimes also.
I'm still working on getting my pictures ready for this article but below is the first picture showing the mounting bracket. Attached to this bracket now is a RAM mount and I'll show you pictures of that soon.
